About
Three days of new Korean independent cinema at the Doris Duke Theatre, 25 to 27 September, presented by HoMA with the CJ Cultural Foundation and Now Production Films. The showcase opens Friday night inside HoMA Nights: Chuseok & Cinema, then runs through the weekend: Words from the Wind, a documentary on the late K-pop composer Kim Hee-gap (Sat 1pm); Hallan, Myungmi Ha's drama of a mother and daughter surviving the 1948 Jeju uprising (Sat 7:30pm); the senior-citizen dine-and-dash comedy People and Meat (Sun 11am); and the Story Up Shorts programme of five new voices (Sun 2pm). Screenings are ticketed individually at $5 to $15, which makes this the cheapest way to see festival-circuit Korean films on Oʻahu this year; Hallan in particular is unlikely to get another local screening.
