Privacy
The short version: there is no account, we do not sell anything about you, and the app works without giving us your name, your email or your location. What follows is the long version, because “we value your privacy” is not a policy.
Who this is
Local Hawaii Events is run by KraftStories, which has two studios in Honolulu — 15 N Pauahi St and 941 River St #240. Post reaches us at the Pauahi Street address. The app is published by Nurullah Gokdogan, who owns KraftStories — so the App Store and Google Play list an individual’s name as the developer rather than the studio’s. Same person, same address, and we would rather explain that than have you wonder. The studio also runs workshops that appear in these listings, which is disclosed on the about page. The app
The iOS and Android app has no sign-in and no user accounts. It stores five things, and three of them only exist if you opt in.
A random device id
Generated on your phone the first time the app opens. It is not your advertising id, not your phone number, and not linked to anything Apple or Google knows about you.
Why: It is how the server remembers which studios you follow and which alerts you turned on, without asking you to create an account.
A push token
Issued by Apple or Google when — and only when — you agree to notifications.
Why: It is the address a notification is delivered to. Turn notifications off and it stops being used.
Your time zone
Read from the phone’s settings.
Why: So nothing arrives at 3am. Notifications are held between 9pm and 7am in your own local time.
Which alerts you chose
The topics you switched on, the studios you follow, and — for the marketing topic only — the exact sentence you agreed to and when.
Why: The consent record exists so that if anyone asks how we got permission to send you marketing, we can show them rather than assert it.
An email address — only if you type one
Optional. The app works fully without it.
Why: It lets your app alerts and the weekly email be reconciled, so you are not told the same thing twice.
What the app does not collect
No location. No contacts. No photos. No advertising identifier. No analytics SDK, no third-party trackers, and no data broker of any kind. Saved classes are stored on your phone and never sent to us — that is why the Saved tab works with no signal. Adding a class to your calendar writes to your calendar and tells us nothing.
What we will send you, and how often
Notifications are off until you turn one on, and each type is separately switchable in the app’s Alerts screen. Caps are enforced on our server, not left to good intentions.

Nothing is delivered between 9pm and 7am in your time zone. The same alert is never sent to the same device twice.
The website
The site uses Google Analytics 4 to count visits and see which pages are read. It is configured with IP anonymisation and we do not use it to build advertising audiences. If you subscribe to the weekly email, your address and your topic choices are held in Klaviyo, who process it on our behalf; every email carries a one-click unsubscribe and we honour it immediately.
One more thing the site does, added in August 2026, because it would be easy to leave unsaid. Some guides link to kraftstories.com, our own studio. When one of those links is clicked we record that a click happened and which guide it came from — nothing about who clicked. The event is filed against our own house record in Klaviyo rather than creating a profile for you, which is both cheaper for us and the reason there is nothing here to connect back to a person. We do it to find out which guides are worth writing more of.
Signing in is only for site administrators, through Google. Ordinary readers never sign in and we never ask.
Who else sees any of it
Four processors, each doing one job: Vercel hosts the site and database, Expo relays push notifications to Apple and Google, Klaviyo sends the newsletter and counts clicks through to our own studio, and Google Analytics counts visits. Nobody else. We do not sell, rent or share personal information, and we have never received a request from law enforcement — if that changes and we are permitted to say so, this line will change.
How long we keep it
Delete the app and the push token stops working; the device row is marked inactive on the next failed delivery and purged within 90 days. Notification history is kept 30 days, which is what the “never send the same thing twice” rule needs to work. Email subscribers are kept until they unsubscribe, then removed within 30 days.
Deleting your data
In the app, open the Alerts tab and tap Delete my data at the bottom. Your settings, followed studios, notification history and this device are erased immediately, and the app forgets its own id. It has to work that way round rather than by email: that id is the only thing identifying you, nothing ever shows it to you, so an emailed request could not be matched to a row. The full explanation is here. For the website’s email alerts, where we do know your address, write to hello@kraftstories.com and we action it within 30 days, normally the same week.
If you are in California, the EU or the UK, you have rights to access, correct, delete and port your data, and to object to processing. Use the same address. We will not charge you and we will not treat you differently for asking.
Children
This is not a service aimed at children and we do not knowingly collect anything from anyone under 13. Plenty of the classes we list are for kids — but the person choosing them is a grown-up.
Changes
If this policy changes in a way that affects what we collect or who sees it, the date at the top changes and — for anything material — the app tells you the next time you open it. We will not quietly widen what we collect and rely on you not re-reading this page.
