Twice-monthly community workdays at the 800-year-old Heʻeia fishpond on Kāneʻohe Bay, on the second and fourth Saturdays of most months from 8:30 am to noon: moving rock on the kuapā wall, clearing mangrove and invasive limu, learning how a loko iʻa works. Ages 12 and up; covered shoes or tabis are mandatory, bring reef-safe sunscreen, a refillable bottle and a bowl and utensil for the lunch they provide. RSVP is required and the exact meeting point is emailed the week of — and these fill up months ahead, so write to them one to two months out. Free. It is the only fishpond workday on our calendar with a fixed schedule.
