Anatomy of a Portrait
About
Anatomy of a Portrait is an eight-class drawing workshop at Zwick Academy of Fine Art, 1109 Maunakea Street, Honolulu, that studies the head from the inside out. Students begin with skull proportions and bony landmarks, analyze the planes of the face using the Assaro Head, and study the muscles of facial expression. They then construct an ecorche drawing and draw portraits from a live model, working mainly in graphite, charcoal and chalk. Classes are two hours each and meet on Thursdays from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m., October 15 through December 17, 2026, with no class on November 5 or November 26. The page describes the workshop as being for beginner and intermediate students, mentions advanced students as well, and states no prerequisites or minimum age. A materials list is linked separately and no supply fee is printed. The instructor is not named. The price is $400.00, and enrollment is confirmed on completion of payment. No payment plan is printed. Call 808-938-3861 with questions. If portraits are your focus in Honolulu, Zwick lists Introduction to Portrait Drawing and Painting starting January 9, 2027, at $450, and the Honolulu Museum of Art School lists Drawing and Painting Portraits from October 8 at $325.
