The Oil Painter's Studio: Materials & Techniques
About
The Oil Painter's Studio: Materials & Techniques is an eight-class, hands-on workshop at Zwick Academy of Fine Art, 1109 Maunakea Street, Honolulu. Students stretch their own canvases, prepare painting panels from inexpensive materials, compare oil painting mediums and mix their own tube of oil paint from pigment and binder. They also build reference charts and studies on transparency, drying times, glazing and alla prima painting, and cover supports, brushes, pigments, varnishes, palette organization, brush care, photographing artwork, wiring paintings and presenting work. Participants take home a stretched canvas, a prepared panel, a homemade tube of oil paint, medium comparison charts and glazing and alla prima studies. Classes are three hours each, Sundays from 4 to 7 p.m., October 18 through December 6, 2026. The workshop is open to beginners and experienced painters, with no formal prerequisites. A materials list is linked separately, and no supply fee, minimum age or instructor name is printed. The price is $380.00, with no tiers or payment plans listed, and enrollment is confirmed on payment. Questions can go to the academy at 808-938-3861. For more oil painting in Honolulu this fall, Zwick also lists a master copy workshop on Anders Zorn from October 17 and a Color Theory course on Tuesdays from October 13.
