The west side

Lagoons, a pillbox, Mākaha’s surf and the end of the road at Kaʻena.

The Waiʻanae coast is Oʻahu’s dry, sunny west side: resort lagoons at Ko Olina, then a long run of local beaches, surf breaks and green valleys to the end of the road.

Fewer visitors come here, which is why it feels most like old Oʻahu. Be a good guest: lock up, leave nothing behind, and respect the line-up at the surf spots.

Questions people ask

Is the west side of Oʻahu safe to visit?

Yes. Like anywhere, don’t leave valuables in the car at beach lots, and swim only where and when it’s calm.

Can you drive around Kaʻena Point?

No. The road ends on both sides; you walk the last 2.5 miles to the point.

Are the Ko Olina lagoons public?

Yes, the lagoons and the coastal path are open to the public, with a limited number of free public parking spaces at each lagoon.
