Intaglio

About

Intaglio is a ten-session printmaking course at the Honolulu Museum of Art School, 1111 Victoria Street, Honolulu, taught by teaching artist Paul Galang. Students transform a drawing or design into a printing plate by drawing or scratching directly onto plexiglass and copper, creating lines, textures and tones. The course covers traditional plate preparation, ink wiping and printing, with methods ranging from drypoint to etching. Classes meet Thursdays from 6 to 9 p.m., October 8 through December 17, 2026, with no class on November 26. The course is for ages 16 and up and welcomes all skill levels, from beginners to people with some printing experience. No prerequisites are listed, and the page states no separate materials fee. The price is $330, with no member or tiered pricing printed. The page lists registration as closed (it closed on September 24), so check with the school about a waiting list before planning to attend. Printmakers have other options on this calendar at the same school. Monoprinting starts the same day, October 8, also at $330, while Relief Printmaking and Screenprinting Next Steps begin on Saturday, October 17. Together with Intaglio, that gives Honolulu a run of evening and weekend print classes this fall.
