Landscape En Plein Air

About

Landscape en Plein Air is a ten-session outdoor painting course at the Honolulu Museum of Art School, 1111 Victoria Street, Honolulu, taught by teaching artist Amy Rose Craig. Students paint landscapes on the Museum and Art School grounds, refining composition, color mixing and brushwork while learning to set up outdoors and respond to shifting light and conditions. The course includes on-site sketching and painting sessions. It meets Fridays from 8:30 a.m. to noon, October 16 through December 18, 2026. The course is for ages 16 and up and is listed at intermediate level. Students need prior oil painting experience and the ability to work independently, and should be comfortable mixing color, blocking in compositions and using brushes, solvents and mediums. They must carry their own equipment and work outdoors for extended periods on uneven surfaces. In rain, the class moves indoors to Room 200 for guided studies and compositional exercises. The price is $318, with no member or tiered pricing printed and no materials fee stated. The page lists registration as closed (it closed on October 2), so ask the school about a waiting list. For other painting classes at the same school, this calendar lists Watercolor at $280 and Non-Traditional Oil Painting at $290, both starting October 15.
